Principles & Prompts

On Creativity, Story, and Writing

photo-3-300x300This is a six-week course offered in late Fall, during which we will discuss principles of the genius or the craft, pulling from books like BIG MAGIC by Elizabeth Gilbert, Lisa Cron’s WIRED FOR STORY, and more. Each week, you will also be asked to draft a story or essay based on a writing prompt.

The main goal of this course is to keep you engaged with writing during a time of year when our creative aspirations fall to the wayside in the midst of menu planning, family gatherings, and holidays.

With that in mind, the time commitment is low and so is the price: $85 (returning students will see an even lower rate) guarantees you six weeks of inspiration, the beginnings of several pieces, and new connections with writers like yourself.

Student testimonials:

“Christi Craig’s on-line class, Principles & Prompts, is an ideal environment to open your mind up to not only learn, but also do and the six-week course provides a perfect escape during an otherwise busy time of year. Christi has the uncanny ability of incorporating works, both written and film, that nudge the muse to tackle the writing prompt that follows.  Although there is no pressure for perfection or finished pages, I have to say, the synergy of the group compelled me to do more than slap my thoughts together. As a facilitator Christi creates a safe environment, offers encouragement and always finds a way to pinpoint an area that, with work, could be more than the bones of the story. If you are looking for a close knit group where you can push yourself to write, I highly recommend Principles & Prompts.” ~ Elin Stebbins Waldal

“Principles and Prompts was exactly what I needed to motivate me in my writing life.  The engaging and inspiring resources that Christi provided throughout the six weeks gave me a much-needed fresh perspective.  I really appreciated the supportive community of writers that was created in the forum, through Christi’s expert facilitation, as we shared our pieces and commented on each other’s writing.  The prompts, along with the feedback from Christi and the other writers, kept me thinking and writing, and pushed me to stretch myself creatively in new ways.  Christi is a caring and committed instructor, which made my first experience of taking an online writing course so overwhelmingly positive.  And fun too!  I wholeheartedly recommend this class!”  ~ Mary Krawczyk
